Cellular infiltration of the human arterial adventitia associated with atheromatous plaques.

چکیده
C ELLULIAR INFILTRATION of the adventitia in atheromatous arteries was noted by Allbutt,l Ophuils,2 and Gerlis,3 who described the histologic characteristics of cellular aggregates in the adventitia of coronary arteries, and concluded that they were unrelated to the degree of coronary artery disease. He also stated that adventitial cellular infiltration was restricted to the coronary arteries, and did not occur in other arterial sites. We considered, therefore, that a study of the nature and prevalence of adventitial cellular changes in different segments of the arterial tree would be of interest.

Maximum Preservation of the Media in Carotid Endarterectomy
Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is intended to remove atheromatous plaque by dissecting a plane between the intima and the media (circular medial fibers), but this may not be the optimal dissection plane. The present technique is based on identifying the plane that divides the media from the plaque, so preserving the media on the adventitia as much as possible. This plane is more difficult to find...
متن کاملRelationship of thyroid function with intracranial arterial stenosis and carotid atheromatous plaques in ischemic stroke patients with euthyroidism
This study aimed to help clarify the possible relationships of thyroid function with intracranial arterial stenosis or carotid atheromatous plaques in ischemic stroke patients with euthyroidism. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of a consecutive series of ischemic stroke patients prospectively entered into the Chengdu Stroke Registry between February 2010 and March2012. We perform...
متن کاملEvidence for increased collagenolysis by interstitial collagenases-1 and -3 in vulnerable human atheromatous plaques.
BACKGROUND Several recent studies attempted to classify plaques as those prone to cause clinical manifestations (vulnerable, atheromatous plaques) or those less frequently associated with acute thrombotic complication (stable, fibrous plaques). Defining the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie these morphological features remains a challenge. Because interstitial forms of collagen de...
متن کاملRole of the OPG/RANK/RANKL triad in calcifications of the atheromatous plaques: comparison between carotid and femoral beds.
Recent works demonstrated the difference of calcification genesis between carotid and femoral plaques, femoral plaques being more calcified. It has been clearly demonstrated that the molecular triad osteoprotegerin (OPG)/Receptor Activator of NFkB (RANK)/RANK Ligand (RANKL) exerts its activities in the osteoimmunology and vascular system. The aim of this study was to determine their expression ...
متن کاملیافتههای سونوگرافی آترواسکلروز تحت بالینی در شریان کاروتید مشترک: مبتلایان به آرتریت روماتویید در مقایسه با گروه کنترل
Background: High Resolution sonography of common carotid artery is a safe method for rapid diagnosis of atherosclerosis in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The purpose of this study was to compare sonographic findings of subclinical atherosclerosis in rheumatoid arthritis patients and control group and comparing the prevalence of atheromatous plaques and Intima- media thickness in arteries of the gro...
